YOU CAN GET HOW MUCH TO PLAY LOCAL FOOTY!?

Have you ever wondered how much a local footballer makes to play their chosen sport?

The numbers may stagger you!

Let’s take a deeper dive.

Pretty much every league across Australia has a salary cap, these caps can range anywhere from $30,000 per season to $150,000 per season. This would mean that the mean (ave) player payment per game (Assuming a 16 round season and 22 players) would be between $85 and $430 per game.

But this is assuming the club is adhering to their salary cap (which is becoming more and more difficult for leagues to monitor.

We have heard some crazy stories of player payments over the years.

From a player getting to $75,000 lump sum for a season to a player playing at a different club every week and getting anywhere from $2,000 to $7,500 for the game!

You may think these payments are reserved for recently retired AFL players or state league level guns but local clubs (particularly regional clubs) are and have the budget and funds to pay a medium to good level player upwards of $500 per game and well over $1,000 per game if you have talent league, state league or any kind of representative football experience.

Whether this is right or wrong is another debate but it is happening all across the country, granted some big leagues (The VAFA) don’t allow player payments- However if you are a top player in a league like the VAFA other incentives are certainly offered.

We have heard of cases of players having their children given scholarships to elite private schools or accommodation being provided.

The bottom line being if you are looking to make money playing a sport in Australia no matter what level you are at, Aussie Rules is your best bet to make a killing doing what you love.
